“ THE JOY OF DRESSING IS AN ART ” - GALLIANO

Becoming a fashion student, starting university, 2017!

Hi everyone! How are you all? I know it has been quite a while since I have updated this blog. I simply forgot how much I love blogging (as well as being buried under lots of school and uni work)! So I did it. I got into the university of my choice and I am studying Fashion! (A dream come true really!) It wasn't easy though, hence my absence on here. Lets go back to the wonderful UCAS process this time last year. I applied to 2 universities, 2 courses in one and 3 in the other. Not many universities have fashion courses, so out of the 5 courses I applied to, 1 was a fashion course.
Now, because there are very few fashion courses, the grade boundaries for this course were really high- it is easier to get into some law courses than get into this one. I also had to deal with people asking what I was planning to do at uni and getting the response that my chosen course was an "easy course" and a "pointless degree".

March came around and I got my conditionals (I actually didn't get rejected from anywhere which was surprising to me. In school I wasn't too smart and didn't really excel at any subject in particular like many other students did. ) however the conditions that I had to meet were 2 As. I laughed. I never thought I would make it. I was only studying 2 subjects at the time one of which was a crash higher (crash higher - subject I had never studied till this year). The subjects were RMPS (Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies) and French. FRENCH. I hadn't touched french in a year and I was terrible. I could barely string a sentence together without something being wrong. The support I received from my teacher and my friends however was amazing and in the mock exam I got a B, which, my teacher was astonished at as I don't think he really expected that - but neither did I haha! Being terrible at French was not all bad though, I actually made a new friend out of it. I desperately needed a tutor and came across the most amazing tutor I could have ever wished for! She was a french student studying her honours degree in Scotland. She had so much patience with me and my terrible grammar and was an amazing teacher. She has moved back to France, and is now a teacher in a high school and we still keep in contact!

Fast forward to my exams (which I studied my butt off for) I was relieved they were over, but still not confident that I had any grades that I needed.
August came around and so did my results. To my surprise I met my conditions for my first choice - Fashion! I truly can't describe how it felt to have worked for so long at something and actually achieving something.

Believe it or not, that was a short story about how I became a fashion student. If you would like to know the longer story, let me know and I will make either a video or a blog post about it :).

Fast forward to now, I have just completed my first trimester of university. I can say it was not what I was expecting, but it still is pretty good. This degree has many aspects of business to it which makes it hard, but it is definitely not "pointless" as many people had told me it was. I have 1 module of Fashion, but also modules on Finance, Marketing, Social Science, Workplace and Culture and Economics. I actually really like the layout of the course as I loved business in school but I was not able to take it to higher as timings of classes did not fit - stupid I know. But hey, I got to where I wanted to be :)

So that is a (condensed) recap of what I have been doing last year. If you guys want to hear more about the process, or are thinking of becoming a fashion student yourself don't hesitate to comment below or message me on my social medias with questions! Also I can do a longer version in a video which goes more into the process if any of you would like! Are any of you fashion students? I would love to know your experiences! Till next time, lots of love xox

  11. Oh how exciting!! So happy for you! When I was living in Seattle I thought about going to fashion school though not so much for actually designing clothes. It was between an alternative medicine school, graphic design and fashion. The alternative medicine school was way too expensive. I ended up going with graphics as it seemed more practical but now I wish I had followed my heart instead.
