What Is It Like To Study At The Condé Nast College?

You may have heard of the Condé Nast College before, either by flicking through Vogue or by coming across their website online. If you haven't however, don't worry, this post will let you know everything you need to know about the college!

This summer I attended the Condé Nast College for a month long summer intensive course, and I'm being honest when I tell you that applying to this college was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only did I meet and become close friends with the most amazing girls from all across the world, I learnt so much about the fashion industry from lecturers and professionals in this industry.

From week one, our timetables were filled with lectures, visits and workshops all day, every day from 10 till 5 (4 on Fridays yay!). Our lectures consisted of topics such as: the history of fashion, how to prepare & conduct a still life and classic shoot, visual communication (Photoshop & InDesign), PR, fashion advertising, and styling to only name a few. We were also very lucky to have guest speakers Sarah Harris and Mark Russell from Vogue to come and talk to us. When we were not at college however, we had the opportunity to visit some amazing exhibitions around London!

Frida Kahlo
(Photography was not permitted in this exhibition but I really recommend it, it is truly amazing. Frida's belongings were brought to life in this exhibitions, as were her casts which she used as canvases).

While we attended visits and lectures, we were also working on three bigger projects throughout the four weeks. Our first project was a still life shoot with Neri Karra bags, second was a classics shoot, and third was to make the cover of the October issue of Vogue.

Something about the college which I think is really important to bear in mind is that it's very full on. This is something about the college that I personally really enjoyed, and would've loved if I had studied here for my BA degree. It really does an amazing job to set you up for a career in the fashion industry which is also very fast paced. I think this is something unique that normal universities don't offer as, from my personal experience, they tend to have days off during the week and long gaps in their timetables which I personally don't enjoy. At Condé Nast however, there is always something to be working on, whether it is a photoshoot, attending a guest lecture, or even just doing some research in the amazing library they have to offer.

At the beginning of the course, all students were given the opportunity to apply for the role of social media manager for the Condé Nast College social media pages. Myself and two other girls were chosen for the role and we were so excited to be able to document what the Condé Nast College has to offer from a students perspective.

These were some of our posts throughout the month.

I was so grateful to be given the opportunity to control the College's social media accounts as it taught me about how large social medias should be managed.

One of our final visits with the college was a visit to Vogue house. This was a dream come true for so many of us as this is the place that we aspire to call our 'place of work' one day.

It was very interesting to hear the stories of the people behind the masthead of British Vogue and how they found themselves working at one of the biggest magazines in the world. It was amazing to see how passionate everyone was about their job and how much they love the magazine and Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful.
I think everyone left Vogue House that day feeling very motivated and excited to take everything that was said on board and kick-start their career in this wonderful industry.

So if you were dwindling over the decision of whether you should apply to the Condé Nast College or not, I hope this post helped you out. This college will teach you so much about the fashion industry in so many different ways, it will feel like a whirlwind (in the best possible way) while you learn and make the most amazing memories with your new life long friends at the same time.

  1. What a great place to study at. I like the fact they keep a tight schedule and offer an amazing library for students to do their research in. Moreover, it seems like they really prepare students for a career in the faction sector. Practical work and real projects are a great way to introduce students to a career in fashion. That visit to Vogue museum sounds fabulous. Seeing Frida's work must have been amazing. I always looked up to her. Great post, very informative!
